About Palmer Ranch

Once just a collection of cattle and orange farms, Palmer Ranch began its transformation in the early 1900s when a wealthy Chicago business woman named Bertha Honore Palmer bought 80,000 acres of land in the area. Bertha and her family developed the land as a ranch, building houses, gardens, and parks.

In 1972, Tampa Bay Buccaneers founder Hugh Culverhouse purchased the remaining 12,000 acres of Bertha’s estate and created an inspired master-planned community where residents could eat, shop, rest and play amidst the incredible natural beauty of the area.

The easiest beaches to reach from Palmer Ranch are Crescent Beach and Turtle Beach, both of which are popular spots for swimming and boating. Sarasota Beach is just to the north.
