If you are a new Florida resident, you are required to register your vehicle within ten days and get a Florida drivers license within 30 days. If you have an out-of-state drivers license and it has not expired beyond 30 days you can convert your license without taking a written or road test. If you need a drivers license for the first time you must complete a Florida DMV approved four-hour Drug and Alcohol course and DMV test on road signs and road rules.

Beginning January 1, 2010, you may renew your drivers license online unless:
1.  You are applying for your first Drivers License or ID Card
2.  Your current credentials expires and you have already used the one-time “convenience” renewal option.
3.  You legally change your name.

In compliance with the Federal Real ID Act, applicants are required to provide proof of identity, social security number, and and residence.
1) Identity as a U.S. Citizen requires one proof such as a certified birth certificate, valid U.S. Passport, Certificate of Naturalization or Consular report of birth abroad.
Legal Name Change also requires an original or certified copy of marriage certificate or certified copy of a court order.
2) Social Security Number requires one proof such as a social security card, W-2 form or a paycheck with the SSN.
3) Residential Address requires two proofs such as a deed, mortgage payment book, rental agreement, Florida vehicle registration or title, utility bill or Florida voter identification.
