Enjoy the best of the Gulf Coast from a Holmes Beach home. These brightly colored dream properties feature some of the best in fun, coastal Florida architecture.
The expressive styles capture the beach-village tone of the island perfectly. In calm pastel hues, take in the tropical ocean views from the raised, wrap-around porches. Much of Holmes Beach real estate is built up on pilings, allowing for garages, patios, and barbecue areas to be tucked neatly in the shade underneath.
Pools are another common feature on larger Holmes Beach properties, providing a refreshing swim after a day at the beach.
The small town feel of Anna Maria island is preserved here at Holmes Beach thanks to the array of classic and vintage styles. Southern Colonial inspired beach homes display wide porches lined with pillars and topped with metal roofs. Expect to find these prime sunset-viewing areas on every level.
If you prefer to keep things a little more grounded, you can also find a range of Mid-Century ranchers on offer as well, with characteristically low-hipped, or flat roofs. You can even find stately homes inspired by Spanish villas of old, recalling the days when explorers from Europe came to these islands in search of their fortune.
Newer homes for sale in Holmes Beach have been inspired by the elegant Key West style of beach design. Elegant, cool, airy, and cozy. These homes are the pinnacle of Gulf Coast living.
The northern portion of Holmes Beach is dominated by popular canal homes. Wide yards, covered pools, and private docks are the order of the day in these spacious properties.
Holmes Beach Area Information
The city of Holmes Beach occupies the larger middle portion of Anna Maria Island off Florida's Gulf Coast and at the mouth of Tampa Bay. Residential and commercial development is continuous along the entire length of the island, as Holmes Beach becomes the city of Anna Maria in the north, and Bradenton Beach in the south.
Holmes Beach is home to the island's largest commercial centers, including Anna Maria Island shops, as well as the main access point to the mainland via Manatee Avenue. Real estate on the island is more modest than many other barrier islands, yet boasts excellent access to the mainland, and top-quality beaches.
Almost 3 miles of fine, white sandy beaches run the western edge of the island, with Manatee Public Beach being the popular spot in Holmes Beach itself. Both residents and visitors alike enjoy these beaches for their fine sand, warm waters, numerous shells and sharks teeth, and amazing facilities.
At Holmes Beach's northern end, an island known as Key Royale hosts many spacious canal properties, as well as the area's only golf course.
Holmes Beach History
The Holmes Beach community was founded by developer Jack Holmes after World War II. The city was incorporated in 1950 and the first canal home was built in 1962. The area grew rapidly in the later part of the century thanks to its relatively affordable real estate prices and modest scale.
