Sarasota County Fire Department provides Emergency Medical Services to the cities of Venice and Sarasota, the unincorporated areas of Sarasota County as well as Nokomis and Englewood.

The Department operates 21 Advanced Life Support (ALS) Transport Ambulances, 4 ALS fire engines, and two critical care interfacility transport ambulances. The Department’s 400 plus Firefighter/Emt’s and Firefighter/Paramedics respond to more than 38,000 medical calls annually. Department personnel provide emergency medical treatment under the Medical Direction of Dr. Steven Newman, Medical Director. Paramedics provide livesaving treatments such as administering medications and IV’s, defibrillation, external pacing, chest decompression, cricothyrotomy, all under the direction of the Medical Director.

Patients are transported to one of five resource hospitals located within Sarasota County or one of five resource hospitals located outside of Sarasota County. Critical trauma patients are transported via Bayflite Aeromedical Helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center, a Certified Trauma Center in St. Petersburg Florida.
