Venice Florida – Your Aquatic Playground

Posted by Tracy Jones on Thursday, November 25th, 2010 at 2:43pm.

Venice Florida is your aquatic playground.  Today, our temperature is in the 80’s with a light breeze, and sunny skies.  Some of our northern friends are experiencing temperatures in the 20’s.  Our climate is perfect for year round boating, fishing, scuba diving, surfing, jet skiing, and just a nice day on the water.

The Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) runs north-south and parallels the coastline providing a protected waterway for those occasional days when the weather is not conducive to open water experiences.  The ICW provides a wide  assortment of dining experiences for the nautically inclined.  Offering everything from fine dining to dockside dining, seafood always tastes better on the water.  To really unwind, how about a tropical drink, sitting in a plastic chair with your feet in the water, watching boats cruise by, listening to live entertainment at one of our thatched roof tiki bars.  No reservations required…just  pull up to the dock.  A light heart and relaxed attitude are required. One reason Venice Florida Real Estate is so coveted by boaters is the Venice Inlet, commonly known as the Venice Jetties.  The Venice Inlet is a wide, deep rock out-cropping that  protects a navigation channel connecting the IC W and the Gulf of Mexico.   The Venice Inlet is well marked with lighted channel markers and provides easy access to the Gulf of Mexico for local boaters.  Having easy and accessible Gulf access is incredibly important to boaters.  It saves time and money and allows you to spend more time in the Gulf instead of getting there.

Venice Florida is the perfect launching point to get to scuba diving sites in the Gulf of Mexico.  Popular dives include looking for fossil sharks teeth in 28 feet of water off the shoreline.  These Megalodon teeth are millions of years old and frequently are found to be several inches long.  Diving for these teeth is like a treasure hunt and just as rewarding.  Some divers prefer to dive the submerged Army  Tanks in 68 feet of water.  These tanks are spaced a short distance apart and sit upright on the Gulf floor.  They are complete with guns, turrets, tracks, etc.  They are home to numerous species of marine life including 8 foot Goliath Grouper.  For the more adventurous, there is the 400 foot long Bayronto shipwreck which is located 30 miles out in 110 feet of water.  This is an exhilarating dive which is worth the trip.  A recent dive charter treated their divers to an experience with a whale shark at the Bayronto.  If you don’t have a boat or left your dive gear home, no worries.  There are numerous dive shops offering equipment rentals, sales,  repairs, and dive charters.Venice Florida is your aquatic playground.
