Venice Florida - A Pet Friendly City

Posted by Tracy Jones on Saturday, February 5th, 2011 at 12:28pm.

Venice Florida is a wonderful place to live and your pets will love it here too.  With beautiful weather year round, taking the dog for a walk is a pleasure.  Mollie and Tiger, a pair of Shelties take their owner for a walk.  At 8:45 in the morning, the sun is shining and it is a beautiful 77 degrees.

By contrast, our furry friend to the north can only dream of running on warm sandy beaches.

It is a social ritual in Venice Florida to see pet owners walk their dogs in the morning and evening.  The dogs actually look forward to seeing each other and socializing.  It’s a great time to catch up with your neighbors too.   Deed restricted communities like Lakes of Jacaranda and Venetia require pets be on a leash and that owners pick up after their pets, a common courtesy to your neighbors.

Venice also has several dog parks where dogs are free to run and enjoy themselves.  Fresh drinking water, fire hydrants to pee on, showers, double fences to protect them from traffic, shade, benches are just a few of the pet friendly features. Best of all is Paw Park, located directly on the Gulf of Mexico.  Paw Park is located just south of Sharky’s on the Pier at 1600 S. Harbor Drive.  Here, dogs are free to run and play in warm gulf waters.  They can swim and enjoy themselves just like their two legged friends.  You can actually see your dog smile when they are at Paw Park.
