Venice Chalk Art Festival 2011

Posted by Tracy Jones on Monday, June 6th, 2011 at 2:52pm.

The Venice Chalk Art Festival 2011 was a success.  Participants ranged from young children to the mature, but all shared a love of art and a great deal of talent.  The festival was held on Saturday, June 4, 2011 in the 200 block of Miami Avenue in downtown Venice, Florida.  Competing for honors, bragging rights, and cash, each contestant put their heart into their work, starting at 8:00 a.m.  and finishing just in time for the official judging at 11:00 a.m..

Families and individuals, locals and our northern guests politely waited to get a clear view of each piece of sidewalk art.  The pride and smiles of the artists were mirrored by the enjoyment of the pedestrian spectators.   Events such as this make it clear while Venice Florida was featured in “Where to Retire” magazine as one of the top retirement destinations in the United States.  With such a beautiful sunny day, many were off to the Farmer’s Market, lunch at Sharky’s, or a day on the beach.
