Young and old, big and small, they showed up in Venice, Florida by the thousands with one thing in common…a big appetite. Dozens of Professional Teams prepared through the night to compete for trophies and bragging rights to lay claim to the best BBQ at the Suncoast Bar-B-Que Bash. The smell of hickory and fresh BBQ filled the air and teased the senses. Matt and Leigh Flynn are husband and wife as well as professional firefighters with Sarasota County Fire Department worked through the night to prepare their exhibit Smoke Eaters BBQ. Boasting “Authentic Firehouse Cookin”, their ribs were to die for.
It warms your heart to see young children smile and have fun, families spending the day together, and senior citizens sharing a BBQ sandwich.
Music filled the air as live bands entertained the crowds. The high energy entertainment thrilled thousands.
The real winners of the day was the Suncoast Foundation for Handicapped Children, Inc. who received all the proceeds from this worthy cause. This second annual event held on April 16, 2011 was such a success that there will certainly be a third.
