Alligator Creek Parcel Added to Parks

Posted by Tracy Jones on Monday, February 28th, 2011 at 12:44pm.

Approximately 27 acres of land along Alligator Creek was obtained by Sarasota County through the Neighborhood Parkland program on February 8, 2011.  This adds even more parkland for the citizens of Venice to enjoy.  The significance of this parcel is that Alligator Creek runs through it and will now be better protected.   This parcel contains everything from swamp habitats and pine flatwoods to mesic hammocks.  This tidal creek is an important habitat for wading birds and estuarine species.

This property offers the potential for canoeing and kayaking along Alligator Creek with direct access to Lemon Bay and the Intracoastal Waterway.
