28th Annual Suncoast Super Boat Grand Prix

Posted by Tracy Jones on Monday, July 1st, 2013 at 6:07pm.

Roaring engines, rooster tails, a spray of water, helicopters, heart pounding excitement, and a checkered flag all mean it is time for the 28th Annual Suncoast Super Boat Grand Prix.  This fundraising event for the Suncoast Charities for Children in Sarasota is only thirty minutes from Venice, Florida whether you are going by land or sea. This week of events works up to a feverish pitch on Sunday, July 7, 2013 with the Suncoast Super Boat Grand Prix Boat Race.  Multi-engine power boats race at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour just a hundred yards away from spectators.  Whether you are in the water at Lido Beach or on a boat in the race course spectator area, you will be amazed.  The race has two heats, one starts at 11:00 am and the other starts at 1:00 pm.  Crowds are very large and you will want to arrive early and just kill time while you enjoy the atmosphere.

There is something for everyone.  Whether you fancy Powerboats by the Bay, golf tournaments, bikini contests, or the Festival Parade of Boats, there is an endless list of activities.   Here is a video from last years race to get you in the mood.
