2011 Suncoast Offshore Grand Prix Powerboat Race was Awesome

Posted by Tracy Jones on Monday, July 4th, 2011 at 3:35pm.

The 2011 Suncoast Offshore Grand Prix Powerboat Race promised a day of excitement and they delivered!   The day started off from Venice, Florida with a beautiful boat ride north to Sarasota, Florida to the spectator area.  This writer enjoyed a sunny day with great friends as we took the 30 minute ride to the spectator area.  Joined by hundreds of boats and thousands of spectators, all there to enjoy the excitement of the races.  Everyone enjoyed great weather, good friendship, food, drink, and the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.  It was a glorious day, diving, swimming, floating on rafts, and otherwise having a great day on the water in the Gulf of Mexico.

Offshore Power Boats thundered through the water throwing rooster tails of water high into the air as they battled it out for first place.  Racers pushed their engines and boats to their limits causing some to blow engines and fall out of the race.  Those  that remained put on a spectacular spectacle for faithful followers who attend year after year.  Bikini clad spectators gasped when  a power boat exceeding 100 mph hit a wake and launched its bow high in the air narrowing avoiding flipping.  Time after time, racers powered past their competition, all seeking the coveted checkered flag.

After the races, hundreds of boats went to “The Cove,” a local boaters hangout on the north end of Sarasota at New Pass.  A huge on the water party went on until dark as another successful Suncoast Offshore Powerboat Race was celebrated.  This annual event is just one reason why the Suncoast of Florida is such a desirable place to live or retire.  Contact  Gulf Shores Realty at 941-488-6644 or visit http://gulfshoresrealty.com/ for more information about Venice, Florida homes for sale or Sarasota, Florida homes for sale.
